I put this arrangement together a week ago, at the same time as I did the bouquet I posted last Monday. It has been holding up surprisingly well; better than the other bouquet to be honest.
I think it's due to the size of this vase and the available water for the plants. The other pot had a container for water set inside it and the water level kept going down quickly. Required refilling daily if not more.
This arrangement includes the same plants as the other one but all cut at more dramatic lengths. The only additions are fronds of Amsonia, Cimicifuga seedheads and some grassy inflorescence whose name I don't know. In this bouquet the green leaves of the Thalictrum on the lower left are slowly turning yellow. In the other bouquet, I cut them when they were yellow and so they dried up fairly quickly. This one is lasting nicely.
About half the fern fronds have curled up to varying degrees. Most of them look pretty good that way as they are still green. Thus they look quirky not like they are dying.
Stop by Rambling in the Garden to see what others are putting in a vase this Monday.
I absolutely adore this vase of foliage showing off the beauty of plants in the fall garden....my foliage is quickly fading here.

Donna —Rain is forecast for the next few days so I think things will be fading fast here, too.

This looks lovely, and great that it is lasting well.

So intriguing to notice all these changes in the vase - and checking water level is something I have to try hard to remember to do, particularly if it is not a clear vase! Thanks for sharing

Lovely! Next year I'll try cutting a little Amsonia before it's trashed by the rain, I love how you've used it here.

I love your foliage-centric vases, Linda. I can't claim anything in the way of fall color here but maybe I can try putting something together with variegated foliage.

Peter — We have lots of friends who are potters who make wood-fired stoneware, glazed and unglazed. Thus we have lots of pots and vases that look good with autumn colors.

Such a dramatic arrangement, and looking so good in that pot, with the purple wall. Perfect!
