Tone on Tone

I am a big fan of the blog, Tone on Tone, which features Swedish antiques in all their dusty blue and gray glory. Loi Thai looks at much more than the antiques he blogs about and sells in his shop; but every topic is filtered through a Scandinavian sensibility whether it's a meal or a bouquet or a fireplace mantle. I can't get enough!

I think I discovered Tone on Tone via another favorite blog, Enclos*sure. Take Refuge, which is the creation of Cindy Goodson. Cindy and I only knew each via our blogs until we met in person last week when she and her husband were in Madison visiting family. Since Cindy lives in Kigali, Rwanda, meeting her in Madison and sharing my garden with her and her husband had a bit of a surreal feel. But that is the nature of blogging: finding folks with similar interests no matter where they live in the world.

She shares her garden in Rwanda on her blog as well as visiting places around that county. Her posts enable readers like me to see the other side of the picture of that country from the one that is so often in news headlines. And she has been posting incredible photos of gardens, landscapes and front porches from the images available via the National Archives. These are black and white images which don't often appear on garden blogs. I think looking at a garden in B&W is a real education and one that more of us should do with our own landscapes.

Before Cindy made it to Madison she stopped in the Washington, D. C. area and actually visited the Tone on Tone shop and met Loi. We both swooned over his furniture and had a great conversation about TOT. Recently I was inspired by his fall display of non-traditional pumpkins and gourds amidst the antiques in his shop. The images on this post offer my own take on the tone-on-tone fall palette.
