Most of the books devoted to fall color in the garden really mean the intense reds, oranges and yellows of berries or leaves turning color. But at the moment my garden is full of a very different, a much more delicate kind of fall color: soft pastel shades of lavender, pink, and yellow.
All the more touching to see knowing that the first frost of the season could arrive any day now or, rather, any evening. Come into the garden with me and take a last look.
