I will be spending Christmas Eve with my husband's family as I have every December 24 since we were married. After years of being trapped in airports or highway rest stops, my siblings and I mostly abandoned our winter get-togethers. This week's weather — and the local forecast for the remainder of the week — is a good reminder of why.
But I will still spend part of the day missing my own family who are scattered in four different cities in three states out East. This day, in particular, was extra special in our family because it was my father's birthday. It still is, of course, but he's no longer with us — making the memories of this double holiday even more bittersweet.
Wishing all of you — especially Nan, Tony, Michael, Kate, Paul, Pat, Scott, Meg, Sarah and Seth — a holiday filled with making new memories and remembering the old ones.
