My full sun garden — in the traffic island in the street in front of our house — has done almost too well. The plants were all huge and fighting for dominance, as you can see from my post last year at this time. The photo below is taken from the berm in the front yard garden.
So last fall I did some digging and dividing. I also overwintered all four Pelargoniums from Kopke's Greenhouse that I had planted in the island. Three survived and were replanted and I added a new one from Johannsen's. If you look at last year's pictures, you can tell that this is greatly thinned out.
While the lilies are tall and dramatic they will soon be over and cut down. The truth is that visibility for drivers needs to take prescedence over beauty. The orange tulips in the spring offer similar drama but without blocking the view. So I think this little garden still needs more thought and work.
I am surprised that with the drought and heat that your island has done so well. Great choices for this area obviously. They are beautiful and sturdy.
