My sister paired her gift of "The Gastronomy of Marriage" with a copy of "Best Food Writing of 2009," edited by Holly Hughes. These little volumes are always a tasty read and this 10th anniversary edition was no exception. Of course, that assumes you like reading about food, whether it's personal, political or potluck.
What I noticed after reading a mere seven selections: two were written by Madisonians, three were from the late lamented Gourmet magazine, three from Saveur, five from on-line venues, but TEN were from newspapers. My advice? If you still have a daily newspaper where you live, subscribe today to assure a future of good reading, and not just about food.
